Southwest Virginia Community College operates with an alternate holiday schedule to accommodate our academic year calendar.  The following is the schedule for the 12 regular state holidays for 2008.

 

            Jan.  1st                       New Year’s Day (Observed)

            May 26th                     Memorial Day (Observed)

            July  4th                        Independence Day (Observed)

            Sept. 1st                       Labor Day (Observed)

            Nov. 27th                     Thanksgiving Day (Observed)

            Nov. 28th                     Day after Thanksgiving (Observed)

            Dec. 22^nd                     In lieu of Veteran’s Day

            Dec. 23^rd                      In lieu of Columbus Day

Dec. 24^th                             Additional Time (1/2 day Wed before Thanksgiving & 1/2 day for Dec 24^th)

            Dec. 25th                     Christmas Day (Observed)

Dec. 26^th                      Additional Time Off

            Dec. 29th                     In lieu of Washington’s Birthday

            Dec. 30th                     In lieu of Lee-Jackson Day

            Dec. 31st                     In lieu of M.L. King Day

           

            In summary, we will be working five holidays – M.L. King Day, Lee-Jackson Day, Washington’s Birthday, Columbus Day, and Veteran’s Day – and we will observe these holidays by closing December 22^nd, 23^rd, 29, 30^th and 31^st.

 

            As always, it may be necessary for some offices to have limited coverage during this time period and compensatory leave will be granted where appropriate.
